WOOL CARPET

Wool is a completely natural and renewable product - sheep can be shorn every nine to twelve months. Purchasing wool carpet advances wool production which benefits local farmers. Additionally, wool is biodegradable and decomposes to produce nitrogen, sulfur, carbon dioxide and water, which are all plant nutrients.

Wool carpet is both an economical and environmentally responsible choice. Wool fibers naturally withstand wear and tear due to the overlapping layers of fibers. These fibers do not scratch and dull as synthetic fibers do. Therefore, a wool carpet may last for years and years, developing an ever more beautiful patina as time passes.

Wool’s high moisture content and protein constituents make it naturally flame retardant and thus eliminates the need for any added chemicals. Wool carpets even have the ability to purify indoor air quality and eliminate contaminants like formaldehyde, nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide by locking the contaminants deep into the core of the fiber. Wool carpets may purify indoor air for up to 30 years.

Sheep outnumber people in New Zealand 13 to 1 and are a natural icon for the country. Living in the green hills and gentle, unpolluted climate, sheep enjoy unique natural advantages that enable them to grow incredibly beautiful, superior wool.

As the world's largest exporter of wool for carpets, New Zealand farmers have access to a vast repository of research and a strong legacy of wool harvesting skills. Such expertise ensures that their techniques impose minimum environmental impact and guarantees better animal care. We are pleased to carry the Wools of New Zealand and Couristan

Thanks to its unique landscape and environment, the United Kingdom produces some of the finest carpet wools in the world. British wool is grown on hardy sheep which graze on open countryside across the UK. It protects the sheep with its unique natural properties from the harshest winter winds, ran and snow through to the warmer spring months. It is ideally suited for the manufacturing of the finest quality carpets.

The wools of the British Isles produce fine carpets that often provide more color choice than the New Zealand wools. Wool carpets are available in both wall to wall carpets and area rugs to complement your other flooring choices.

Seagrass Collection

The perennial grasses of salt water marshes are cut from the plant annually. These plants are native to the monsoon climates of the pacific basin continents. As with all natural fibers, you can expect some weaving irregularity. Visit Design Materials, Inc.

Coir

Coir fiber is produced primarily in India. Coconut husks are allowed to soak in fresh water rivers, where the husks deteriorate over months, leaving this golden brown fiber to be utilized in the making of many types of products. The fiber is pulled from the river, sun-dried and then is hand spun into a yarn. Natural Coir yarn is highly resistant to soiling.

Mountain Grass

Mountain Grass utilizes the coarse stalks of a plant indigenous to China. The outer skin on the stalk is not removed through retting, resulting in a stronger and a more resistant yarn.

Sisal

Sisal fibers are extracted from the long spiny leaves of agave plants. Renowned for its strength; these fibers are harvested as an annual crop by cutting the individual leaves. The long white fibers are then extracted, sun-dried and carefully spun into fine carpet yarn.

Anso Nylon Carpet

The Type 6 nylon fibers in Anso carpets can be recycled over and over again. Because Anso Nylon has been designed to be recycled, this process does not affect the carpet quality, performance, or style. All of the new Anso Nylon products offer the same top-notch features of soil resistance and durability as their predecessors.
